NEWS | Season Ticket Members to have early access to Canada Test

Season Ticket Members will have early access to purchase tickets for Scotland Women’s test against Canada Women at Scotstoun Stadium on Tuesday 27 November (kick-off 7pm).

Tickets for the day, which sees Scotland’s home international join Girls Schools Cup Finals Day, will be available from 10am on Monday 10 September for Scotland Season Pass holders, Glasgow Warriors Season Ticket and Warrior Nation Members and Edinburgh Rugby Season Ticket Members.

Tickets will then be on general sale the following week at 10am on Monday 17 September. Participants of the schools’ finals will be communicated with directly regarding access to tickets

Scottish Rugby’s Head of Women & Girls Rugby, Gemma Fay, said: “We are delighted to give fans a chance to join in this celebration of women and girls’ rugby this autumn.

“The game is growing at every level for female players and we're delighted to be showcasing the highest level of girls’ schools’ rugby alongside this important fixture for Scotland Women ahead of the Six Nations, and as we work towards qualification for Women’s Rugby World Cup 2021.

“We are looking forward to a great set of games and seeing the current and future stars of Scottish rugby in action.”

The international against Canada is one of three capped Test matches outside of the Women’s Six Nations in the 2018/19 season.

The squad will also travel to Calvisano to play Italy on Sunday 4 November (kick-off 2.30pm) and Spain on Sunday 20 January (kick-off and venue TBC).

The matches are designed to provide regular competitive fixtures as the squad continues to improve and targets qualification for Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2021.

Scotland Women Head Coach, Shade Munro, said: “To progress as a team, it’s vital we test ourselves against some of the best sides in the world and play more quality sides, more frequently.

“Increasing our game time means we can continue to shape this hard-working and exciting group of players as we build towards the Six Nations and, ultimately, qualification for the World Cup.”

Visitors, Canada Women, are ranked fourth in the world and finished fifth in the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2017 in Ireland, beating Australia in their final match.

The sides have met on five previous occasions with Canada winning the last four following the Scots' 11-5 victory in 1994.

Scotland last played Italy in Padua in this year’s Women’s Six Nations, where a second-half fightback was not enough to overcome a clinical performance from the home team in the first period.

Spain have been regular rivals for Scotland over the past few years, most notably when the sides played a Women’s Rugby World Cup 2017 qualifier that saw Spain narrowly triumph over two legs.

More recently, in 2017, an uncapped Scotland Women XV travelled to Madrid to play Spain, outscoring their hosts four tries to one in a 24-5 win.

Munro added: “Canada have shown time and again they can compete at the highest level and we’re delighted to be welcoming them to Scotstoun this November.

“Similarly, we know Italy and Spain very well and the stern challenge we are going to get from them, especially away from home.”

Scotland will be looking to build on some strong performances in this year’s Women’s Six Nations, where they claimed their first away win in 12 years over Ireland in Dublin.
