NEWS | Edinburgh Rugby supports children's charities at Christmas

Wing Tom Brown will pay tribute to life-changing new facilities, currently under construction at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, when he makes a short address at a special sold out Christmas Carol Concert at St Giles' Cathedral on Tuesday evening (4 December).

The Ronald McDonald House Christmas Carol Concert, which is being sponsored by Edinburgh Rugby, aims to continue raising funds for a new 25-bedroom house which will provide free accommodation for families, so they can stay together and close to their child whilst in hospital.

Brown knows the difference the facility will make having had first-hand experience of the charity’s accommodation after the winger’s brother, Robbie, fell seriously ill as a child. Brown and his family were able to stay at the hospital’s existing family housing whilst the youngest sibling was undergoing treatment.

Whilst Robbie thankfully made a full recovery, Tom has been an avid supporter of the charity ever since and in June took part in a charity abseil from the Forth Road Bridge which raised over £1,000 in support of the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity. Edinburgh Rugby also continues to visit the hospital every Christmas with gifts from players, staff and supporters.

Ahead of next week’s carol concert, Brown said: “Ronald McDonald House is obviously extremely close to my heart and I have seen first-hand the brilliant work that the charity and its staff and volunteers do.

I’m really looking forward to playing a small role in next week’s carol concert and I’m delighted that Edinburgh Rugby continues to support such amazing charities.

Tuesday’s sold out concert is a family-friendly festive evening at featuring some of the city’s finest choirs - including the four Phoenix Community Choirs (Leith, Carers & Co, St Martins and Valley Park). The service begins at 7pm and will also be broadcast on speakers outside St Giles.

In addition to the support of Ronald McDonald House, Edinburgh players, staff and supporters will once again be supporting the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity this Christmas by donating gifts to the local hospital in December.

Fans attending the Heineken Champions Cup match against Newcastle Falcons on Friday 7 December will be able to drop off presents in the donation box located in the Supporter’s Clubhouse both before and after the game.

Donation boxes are also set up at both the Scottish Rugby Store at BT Murrayfield and in the West Stand main reception every day next week, where supporters have the chance to drop off toys, vouchers and clothes to make this year's visit extra special.

Details of suitable presents for the children can be found here.
