Edinburgh Rugby ‘A’ side named for Knights clash

15 Dec 2023

The Edinburgh Rugby ‘A’ side for tonight’s friendly against Doncaster Knights at Castle Park has been named (Friday 15 December, kick-off 7.30pm).

A side containing a blend of youth and experience travels south for the match-up with the English Championship team, with tickets available at Doncaster Knight’s official website HERE.

Nathan Sweeney returns from injury to start at full-back with Finn Douglas and GB Sevens flyer Jordan Edmunds named on opposite wings.

Club centurion Chris Dean is named at inside centre alongside Heriot’s Rugby’s Matt Davidson. Charlie Shiel (scrum-half) and Cammy Scott (stand-off) start at half-back.

In the pack, hooker Patrick Harrison packs down alongside props Boan Venter (loosehead) and Angus Williams (tighthead), as lock Jamie Campbell starts alongside another Heriot’s man, Ronan Seydak, in the second-row.

Openside flanker Connor Boyle – named captain – features in a strong back-row alongside Tom Dodd (blindside flanker) and number 8 Ben Muncaster.

Edinburgh Rugby ‘A’ team coach, Ben Cairns, said: “This match is a great opportunity to give younger guys, and perhaps those that need a bit of game time, meaningful minutes against a strong Doncaster Knights side.

“There is a strong blend of youth and experience named for tonight’s match-up, while it’s great to see exciting players like Nathan Sweeney return from injury to feature.

“We’re really looking forward to the challenge and there will hopefully be a cracking atmosphere at Castle Park tonight come kick-off.”
