Chris Dean

Inside Centre

A hard running but skilful centre, Dean joined Edinburgh in the summer of 2014 following a successful stint with Scotland 7s and has gone on to become a club centurion.

The centre – who came through the ranks at North Berwick and Edinburgh Academy – has represented Scotland at every age-grade level, while his leadership abilities saw him captain Scotland U17 at the Wellington Festival in 2011.

At just 19 years of age, Dean was the first Scot to score a try at the 2013 Rugby World Cup 7s in Moscow, in his country’s opening match against Japan. He scored three tries in total in that tournament.

Dean made his first competitive start for the club in the win against Leinster in September 2015, while he scored his first points with a try against Connacht in March 2016.

The centre captained Edinburgh to their sole Ladies’ Cup triumph at Melrose 7s in 2016, before enjoying a breakout start to the 2017/18 campaign which saw him score four tries in the opening three matches.

Dean made his 50th appearance for the club against Ospreys in November 2017 and signed a new two-year deal, keeping him in the capital until at least 2020.

Dean was one of seven uncapped players named in the Scotland squad for the 2019 Six Nations.

Dean celebrated his 100th appearance for the club with an away win over Sale Sharks in the Heineken Champions Cup in December 2020.
