Military families invited to Remembrance Day match-up

Edinburgh Rugby has joined forces with former Scotland Sevens player and current serving soldier within the Royal Regiment of Scotland, 3 SCOTS, Junior Bulumakau, to provide over 160 tickets to members of the military and their families for tomorrow night’s Connacht match at Hive Stadium.

With tomorrow’s night’s BKT United Rugby Championship Round 4 fixture falling on Remembrance Day, Edinburgh Ruby joins the rest of the Commonwealth in paying tribute to armed forces members who’ve lost their lives in conflict and in the line of duty.

The club has this week worked with Bulumakau to deliver over 160 tickets to armed forces members and their families based throughout the UK, with 30 of those kids – many of whom are from South Sea Island military communities – set to join the ‘guard of honour’ to cheer on the team as they run into Hive Stadium.

Bulumakau will deliver the match ball on the night, while a moment’s silence and rendition of Floo’ers o’ the Forrest will be played pre-match, to give supporters the opportunity to reflect and pay their respect those that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Bulumakau said: “I want to thank Edinburgh Rugby for inviting service personnel and their families to take part in this game, commemorating one of the most notable days in history and remembering the sacrifices made by individuals and families fighting for the freedom that we have today.

“Memories are the treasured moments that live in our hearts forever. Sometimes, the best moments are the ones that last a lifetime in our memories. Remember every moment, cherish every minute, and embrace every opportunity. The best moments are the ones we never forget.

“I take this Quote with me all the time since I joined the army. Then still continue to when I was playing and now coaching career. On 11.11.23 the families will remember this day forever, cherish the memories.

“Thank you again Edinburgh Rugby for the support and opportunity giving the families to come watch the game. I know very well on Saturday the families will be cheering on Edinburgh Rugby.”

Edinburgh Rugby has also worked with Poppyscotland for tomorrow night’s Connacht match-up, with Bud, Poppyscotland’s mobile learning museum on site for fans to visit and pay their respects.

Commenting, Gordon Michie, Poppyscotland’s Head of Fundraising and Learning, and an RAF Veteran, has said:

“The public support that Edinburgh Rugby have provided to the Scottish Poppy Appeal is second to none.”On Armistice Day, which is also the penultimate day of the Scottish Poppy Appeal, they have been gracious enough to allow Bud, our mobile learning museum, on the grounds of Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

“The engagement from Rugby fans has been superb as a result of this, and we can only thank Edinburgh Rugby for their continued support.”
