Ritchie crowned URC’s Turnover King

Edinburgh Rugby centurion and Scotland internationalist Jamie Ritchie has capped off an impressive season by being named the BKT United Rugby Championship's ‘Turnover King’ for the 2023/24 season.

The award recognises Ritchie’s impressive ability to win possession back for his team, with a staggering 22 turnovers throughout the regular season campaign.

This accolade adds another trophy to Ritchie’s growing cabinet, having already secured both the Scottish Building Society Player of the Year and the final Player of the Month award for April.

His dominance in the turnover department is clear, with his nearest competitor, Connacht’s Shamus Hurley-Langton, finishing four turnovers behind on 18. JC Pretorius of the Emirates Lions rounded out the top three with 17 turnovers.

Speaking about Ritchie’s achievement, Edinburgh Rugby Head Coach Sean Everitt praised the flanker’s work ethic and impact on the team.

“Jamie has been outstanding for us all season,” Everitt said. “His dedication to his defensive work is phenomenal, and his ability to win those crucial turnovers has been a major factor in many of our victories. We’re delighted to see him recognised for his efforts with this URC award.

“He’s a real competitor, and his ability to turn defence into attack has been a game-changer for us on numerous occasions. We’re incredibly fortunate to have him at Edinburgh Rugby.”
