First three in focus: Leinster, DHL Stormers and Cardiff

3 Sep 2024

Edinburgh Rugby is set for a thrilling start to the 2024/25 season with three high-profile home fixtures at Hive Stadium.

The capital side will face off against Leinster, DHL Stormers, and Cardiff Rugby in what promises to be an exhilarating opening to the campaign.

Leinster | Friday 20 September

The season kicks off with a blockbuster clash against eight-times league Champions, Leinster, under the Friday night lights.

The Irish giants, packed with international talent, visit the Scottish capital for the first time since March 2023, with Edinburgh’s last victory against Leinster a 29-24 victory in February 2018.

Edinburgh will be eager to start the season with a bang, especially before heading to South Africa for Rounds 2 and 3.

DHL Stormers | Saturday 12 October

DHL Stormers make their return to the Scottish capital in Round 4, with the last contest between the two sides in Edinburgh a 20-20 draw in October 2021.

The South African side, featuring a host of stars, are sure to provide a stern test for Edinburgh who have yet to claim a victory against the Cape Town outfit since they joined the URC.

Students can enjoy the match for just £11.50, making it a must-attend event.

Cardiff Rugby | Saturday 19 October

A clash of the capitals awaits in Round 5 as Edinburgh take on Cardiff Rugby at Hive Stadium.

The Welsh side have strengthened their squad over the summer, including the addition of Welsh stand-off Callum Sheedy from Bristol Bears.

Edinburgh will be looking to extend their winning streak against Cardiff, having secured three consecutive victories over their Welsh rivals.

Edinburgh beat Cardiff 34-10 at Hive Stadium in January 2022 – Cardiff’s only visit to Hive Stadium – however the match was played in front of no spectators due to Covid-19 – making October’s game the first Cardiff home match to be played in front of fans.
