Its Good 2 Give
It's Good 2 Give are our Official Charity Partner.
About the Charity
It’s Good 2 Give officially came to life in April 2010 to support young cancer patients and their families in real and practical ways.
As well as offering day to day support to those impacted by cancer, they operate the Ripple Retreat – a purpose-built, restful, safe place on the shores of Loch Venachar in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park for those young cancer patients and their families. The award-winning Retreat allows families to use it for a short break together away from doctors, procedures, hospitals, and just enjoy their time together.
What They Do
The charity offers support to young people with cancer and their families in their time of need, trying to make life a little easier on a day-to-day basis. Further details of some of their services are outlined below:
-
Parents and Patients packs
You may not always have time to pack essentials when leaving for the hospital – that’s where It’s Good 2 Give can help.
Their packs come in practical clear washbags and contain everything that you might need for an unexpected overnight in the hospital such as toothbrush and paste, shower gel, notebook and pen, to name a few. All packs also come with a feedback form to make sure they are best suiting your needs.
Originally the packs were only pamper boxes for mums, but over the years they have evolved and now suit dads and teenagers too!
-
Laundry vouchers
Doing laundry is a time-consuming task at the best of times and can add unnecessary stress to an already stressful situation.
If needed, the charity are able to provide up to four laundry vouchers to help families during treatment. They source laundry businesses near the family’s home helping take one thing off a to do list.
-
Nutritional snacks for patients and parents
Patients and parents need all their energy during this hard time, and leaving a child to go and get food is the last thing on their mind.
So, each weekday afternoon in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh their amazing volunteers take a snack trolley around Ward 2.
These snacks can be a variety of:
- yogurts
- cheese and biscuit
- chocolate biscuits
- crisps
- fresh fruit
- fruit juice
- pancakes
- Smoothies
- and much more
In addition they provide several magazine subscriptions for the wards – for parents and patients.
To ensure that families in hospital can still celebrate as a family over the festive period, they also provide food and drink on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
