Bradbury suspended for three weeks
Magnus Bradbury has been suspended for three weeks following the decision of an independent Judicial Officer arising from his club’s EPCR Challenge Cup Round 4 match against Black Lion at Hive Stadium on Sunday 19 January.
Bradbury will be free to play on Monday 3 March. However, if he applies for and successfully completes a World Rugby Coaching Intervention, he will be free to play on Monday 17 February following the club’s BKT United Rugby Championship match against Zebre Parma.
Bradbury was sent off by the referee, Jérémy Rozier (France), in the 34th minute of the match for tackling the Black Lion prop, Bachuki Tchumbadze in a dangerous manner in contravention of Law 9.13.
Law 9.13 A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously.
Under World Rugby’s Sanctions for Foul Play, Law 9.13 carries the following sanction entry points: Low-end – 2 weeks/matches; Mid-range – 6 weeks/matches; Top-end 10-52 weeks/matches
The red card was considered by a single Judicial Officer (Roger Morris of Wales), on a papers-only basis. He upheld the red card and determined that the offence was at the mid-range of World Rugby’s sanctions and selected six weeks as the appropriate entry point.
Taking into account the player’s timely acceptance of the charge, his good disciplinary record and his full co-operation with the disciplinary process, the Judicial Officer decided to reduce the sanction by the maximum of 50% before imposing a three-week suspension.
