Derby opener for expanded A-team calendar

12 Sep 2024

Edinburgh Rugby ‘A’ will open an expanded fixture calendar for the 24/25 season with a derby clash against rivals, Glasgow Warriors ‘A’, at Hive Stadium later this month (Friday 27 September, kick-off 7.35pm).

The intercity match is the first of four fixtures announced by the capital club so far, with further matches set to be announced in the New Year.

Tickets are on sale now for Edinburgh Rugby A v Glasgow Warriors A priced £10 for adults and £5 for U16s, inclusive of order processing fees. Season ticket members will receive a 20% ticket discount when logged into their Ticket Master account.

Three matches follow this month’s ‘A’ team opener at Hive Stadium, with Edinburgh traveling to face Saracens, Bath Rugby and Ealing Trailfinders.

Further ‘A’ team fixtures will be announced by the club at a later date as part of the wider pathways programme, with a combined Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors academy set to face an Ulster U23 side at Scotstoun Stadium on Friday afternoon (13 September, kick-off 4pm).

Edinburgh Rugby ‘A’ Head Coach, Rob Chrystie, said: “It’s fantastic to have four of our 2024/25 ‘A’ team fixtures now confirmed.

“The schedule gives the squad and coaches greater clarity and allows us to plan effectively for the season ahead. The ‘A’ team programme is vital for the development of our younger players and a great opportunity for them to test themselves against top-quality opposition.

“We’re really looking forward to getting started and kicking off the season with a derby against Glasgow ‘A’ at Hive Stadium later this month.”

The new fixture calendar follows the recruitment of an expanded pro-academy intake earlier this year – which increased from the pool of players from 15 to 23 – and includes several players who will train with both the academy and senior sides through the upcoming campaign.

In line with the new Performance Player Pathway announcement from Scottish Rugby, the expanded set-up allows for the inclusion of later developing players and will further support the ongoing development of homegrown players through ‘A’ team fixtures and player draft to Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership sides.
