Edinburgh ‘A’ ready for Watsonians clash

21 May 2024

The Edinburgh’s ‘A’ side is set for their third and final match in this year’s FOSROC Super Series Sprint – wrapping up their campaign against Watsonians at Meggetland this Friday (24 May, kick-off 7.35pm).

The ‘A’ team gives young players a chance to shine in capital colours, while also keeping BKT URC players match sharp should they need to be called upon in the play-off push.

The side have enjoyed an exciting campaign thus far, first claiming a dominant 54-19 win in Melrose against the Southern Knights, before an inspired display from Cammy Scott saw the capital side win a 40-38 thriller against Heriot’s at Goldenacre.

On Friday night Edinburgh fans can see the next generation of Burgh stars making their first steps in the professional game, with academy players like Jack Brown and Freddy Douglas standing out, while young lock duo of Rob Carmichael and Euan McVie continue to impress.

Edinburgh Academy coach Kris Burney has enjoyed the performances of the team to date, especially how the young back line is coping with everything that is being thrown at them:

“We have a really young backline and that was a big test for them. Heriot’s have probably got one of the strongest backlines in the competition so it was good to see how they stuck to the plan and dealt with what was coming at them.

“It would be good if we can keep the young guys and let them finish it off, see what they have learned week to week.”

Tickets for the match at Meggetland will go on sale this evening. Stay tuned to Watsonians’ social channels for more information.
