Edinburgh ‘A’ side named for Heriot’s clash
Rob Chrystie has named an Edinburgh 'A' side with a mix of youth and experience for tomorrow's clash against Heriot's Rugby at Goldenacre - our first involvement in the FOSROC Super Series Sprint campaign (Saturday 8 April, kick-off 5pm) - live on BBC iPlayer and scottishrugby.org
Chrystie, who heads up Edinburgh Rugby’s Academy programme, has selected six academy products to start the match, with three set to feature from the bench.
Scotland U20 captain Liam McConnell skippers the side, with Cammy Scott and Jamie Hodgson named as vice captains.
Loosehead prop Mikey Jones, who recently signed his first professional contract, starts in the front row alongside hooker Adam McBurney and tighthead Angus Williams.
Pierce Phillips and Hodgson make up the second row, with Glen Young offering his experience alongside academy duo of McConnell and Rudi Brown in the back-row.
In the backs, scrum-half Charlie Shiel partners stand-off Charlie Savala, with Chris Dean and Scott forming the midfield.
Jack Blain starts on the left wing, with Borders speedster Finn Douglas starting on the right. Nathan Sweeney, who became the 1320th player to represent the capital against Connacht, starts at full-back.
On the fixture, Rob Chrystie said: “It’s a side with a real blend of youth and experience, providing an exciting opportunity for our academy players to play alongside seasoned professional players.
“There’s also an opportunity for our younger players to lead the side, with Liam McConnell and Cammy Scott both taking on captaincy roles for the fixture.
“We’re really looking forward to our involvement in the Super Series Sprint. It’s a chance to strengthen our relationships with our partnership clubs, with tomorrow’s game against Heriot’s providing a stern test at one of the historic rugby venues in our city.”
