Edinburgh ‘A’ side named for intercity clash

Edinburgh Rugby has named its ‘A’ side to face Glasgow Warriors ‘A’ at Hive Stadium tomorrow night (Friday 27 September, kick-off 7.35pm).

Fourteen of the players recently named in the club’s expanded pro-academy feature in the match 23 as the team open their ‘A’ campaign ahead of upcoming fixtures against Saracens ‘A’, Bath ‘A’ and Ealing Trailfinders.

Senior squad members Connor Boyle, Cammy Scott and Rob Carmichael all start, while the capital side are able to call upon a number of players from the Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership, including winger Archie Barbour (Kelso RFC) and back-row Pat Spence (Heriot’s), both named in the starting line-up.

Ahead of the match, Edinburgh Rugby Pro-Academy Coach, Kris Burney, said: “There’s a real buzz around this group, and we’re excited to see some of our younger players step up and get more competitive minutes under their belt as they continue their development. We’ve also included some players from the Premiership who will be eager to make their mark at this level.

“Playing at Hive Stadium in front of a home crowd is always special occasion and it’s an exciting opportunity for a lot of our younger guys to experience that for the first time. The players have put in a lot of hard work during pre-season and they’re raring to go. We’re expecting a competitive and entertaining match against Glasgow tomorrow night.”

Harri Morris starts at hooker alongside props Mikey Jones (loosehead) and Ollie Blyth-Lafferty (tighthead). Locks Euan McVie and Rob Carmichael combine in the engine room.

Connor Boyle – named captain – anchors the back-row at number 8 as flankers Spence and Freddy Douglas complete the pack.

Conor McAlpine gets the nod at scrum-half alongside stand-off Cammy Scott who is named vice-captain. Centres Fin Thomson and Sam Leweni link-up in the midfield.

Wingers Lewis Wells and Barbour (Kelso RFC) are joined in the back-three by full-back Jack Brown.

Tickets for the Friday night lights intercity encounter are priced at just £10 for adults and £5 for U16s, with 2024/25 season ticket holders given a 20% discount when logged into their ticket master account. BOOK HERE!
