Edinburgh ‘A’ team named for Knights clash

25 Sep 2025

Edinburgh Rugby ‘A’ have named their squad to take on Doncaster Knights at Castle Park tomorrow night (Friday 26 September, kick-off 7pm), with 16 Edinburgh academy players selected in a rematch of last weekend’s pre-season friendly.

Back-row Tom Dodd returns from injury to captain the side, which also features a small selection of players from the wider Scottish rugby pathway, including Scotland age-grade hooker Jamie McAughtrie (Ayr), prop Tom Banatvala (Glasgow Hawks), and centre Harry Clark (Watsonians), all named among the replacements.

Hooker Harri Morris starts alongside props Jamie Stewart (loosehead) and Ollie Blyth-Lafferty (tighthead). In the second-row, Sam Byrd partners 18-year-old Christian Lindsay, who has been a consistent and impressive performer throughout pre-season.

Tom Currie anchors the back-row at number 8, with skipper Dodd at blindside flanker and Freddy Douglas on the openside completing the pack.

Hector Patterson gets the nod at scrum-half, with stand-off Ross Wolfenden continuing in the number 10 jersey. GB Sevens player Matt Davidson continues to train with the capital side and will line up at inside centre, with Nairn Moncreiff alongside him in the midfield.

In the back-three, Rory McHaffie starts at full-back, with Malelili Satala and Lewis Wells selected on the wings. Satala was named Scottish Building Society Player of the Match against Doncaster last weekend after scoring a brace of tries.

Ahead of the match at Castle Park, Edinburgh Rugby Academy Coach Kris Burney said: “This will be a great test for a very young team, going up against a strong and experienced English Championship side on their own turf.

“We did a lot of good things against the Knights last weekend which we want to build on, and it’s great to see so many young academy players once again representing the club. We’re looking forward to locking horns with Doncaster once again after a good hit out last Friday.”

Supporters can watch the game live on Clubber TV HERE with the match priced at £6.99.
