Edinburgh Rugby ‘A’ to face Newcastle Falcons in cross-border friendly

Edinburgh Rugby ‘A’ will travel to face Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park on Friday 9 February (kick-off 7.45pm), with opportunities to help raise funds for My Name’5 Doddie.

The cross-border friendly is a 7.45pm kick-off and tickets are now on sale, priced at just £10 for adults and £5 for under-18s.

A 10% donation from sales of an exclusive hat will be made to My Name’5 Doddie, the charity set up by the late Doddie Weir which is striving to find a cure for motor neurone disease.

There will be further opportunities to donate on the night, with Edinburgh Rugby Senior Coach Sean Everitt delighted to have secured the fixture south of the Border.

He said: “This will be a brilliant opportunity for players to get game time during the Six Nations window – we’re hugely thankful to Newcastle Falcons for agreeing to the fixture. They are a team we know well having enjoyed two hit outs against them during pre-season.

“With the game scheduled on the Friday night ahead of Scotland vs France at Scottish Gas Murrayfield, it gives Edinburgh supporters the chance to hit the road and back the team at Kingston Park, with plenty of opportunity to raise money for a charity that means a lot to all connected with Scottish rugby: My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.”

Paul Thompson, Director of Fundraising and Communications at My Name’5 Doddie Foundation added:

“A Friday night under the lights at Kingston Park is always a fantastic outing and we’re thrilled that the fixture will support the work of My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

“Newcastle Falcons and Edinburgh Rugby have both been supporters of the Foundation for a long time and we’re always grateful for their fundraising and awareness raising efforts.

“Newcastle Falcons is a club that means a lot to the Weir family and the Foundation, with Doddie spending many wonderful years playing for the side.

“We’re sure this is a fixture that the big man would’ve enjoyed, possibly with a Guinness or two in hand, and we’d urge anyone in the area to head along for an action-packed evening.”
