Edinburgh Rugby kits out Development Officers to strengthen capital ties

30 Oct 2025

Edinburgh Rugby is delighted to announce a new initiative aimed at deepening its connection with the grassroots game in the capital and its supporting regions, with the club supplying branded kit to the dedicated Development Officers (DOs) aligned with local clubs.

This kit handover is a vital part of increased visibility with the local rugby clubs and is specifically designed to strengthen connections to those local teams and the Development Officers who work tirelessly in our communities.

By providing this distinctive Edinburgh Rugby gear, the club reinforces a sense of pride for the capital club among all involved, especially the players who show their support on a Friday night at the stadium and then turn out for their grassroots clubs on a Saturday.

A small number of Development Officers have already received the kit, and the club plans to hand over more kit as the season progresses, ensuring the Edinburgh Rugby brand is visible across the region.

This project follows a series of hugely successful community initiatives for Edinburgh Rugby, including its Our Burgh Summer Sessions, which saw the club’s professional players visit 10 local clubs for a summer of engagement that included training sessions and coaching clinics.

Andrew Lamont, Edinburgh Rugby Community Delivery Officer, highlighted the importance of the project.

He said: “This has been a great project to be part of. It truly feels like we’re getting into the heart of our rugby communities by directly supporting the fantastic Development Officers who are on the ground every day.

“This initiative will only strengthen ties with our local clubs because it visually links their work back to the professional setup. It’ll be great to see the Edinburgh Rugby brand out there and visible in all our local communities, inspiring the next generation of players and fans.”

The impact of the kit on the Development Officers themselves is already evident, with Rowan Armatage, Dunbar DO, sharing his enthusiasm.

He said: “It’s class having the Edinburgh Rugby kit. It makes you feel part of the team and helps build that connection with players and schools. It also looks professional. It feels great to wear and shows we’re all part of the same setup when we’re out delivering sessions.”

Michael Hird, Ross High DO, echoed this sentiment, elaborating on the wider significance of the gesture.

“Wearing Edinburgh Rugby kit as Development Officers not only strengthens our connection to the professional game, but also visibly promotes the club’s values within our schools and communities,” explained Hird.

“It fosters a sense of pride, unity, and belonging, howing young players that they’re part of something bigger. Having Development Officers wear Edinburgh Rugby kit helps build a visible bridge between the professional game and grassroots rugby.

“It creates a shared identity, reinforces pride in the sport, and shows young players that they’re part of a wider rugby family. It’s a powerful way to represent the club, inspire future talent, and reinforce the community spirit that rugby is built on.”
