The result sees Thunder leapfrog Edinburgh into fifth place in the standings, leaving the capital side with work to do to break into the top four for the semi-finals with only two rounds remaining.
The hosts, who narrowly defeated Edinburgh 14-7 at Hive Stadium just a fortnight ago, started with intent, pinning Edinburgh back with relentless territory.
The pressure told in the 10th minute; a clever hack through from Ffion Williams forced a five-metre lineout, allowing hooker Rhian Bowden to be driven over by a powerful Thunder pack.
Edinburgh responded with a moment of pure individual magic. Just before the half-hour mark, fly-half Nicole Marlow produced a piece of footballing skill that would have looked at home on a Lionel Messi highlight reel, juggling the ball through the defensive line to score and level the game.
However, the momentum swung back to the hosts before the break. Seren Lockwood sniped over from close range after a solid lineout platform, and a yellow card for high-tackler Hannah Ramsay resulted in a penalty try just before the whistle, leaving Edinburgh trailing 19-7.
With the player advantage, Thunder didn’t take long to extend their lead. Seren Singleton pounced on a loose ball – that looked to be knocked on while she played it on the ground in an offside position – weaving through the Edinburgh defence for a solo bonus-point score.
Despite the mounting scoreline, Claire Cruikshank’s side refused to roll over. Skipper Hannah Walker ignited the spark with a trademark surging run, providing the field position for lock Adelle Ferrie to power over from short range, narrowing the gap to 26-14.
The comeback was cut short, however, by a final clinical blow. Replacement prop Stella Orrin broke through the line, creating the space for Lockwood to throw her second dummy of the afternoon and crash over for her brace, sealing the win for the hosts.
