Edinburgh sit fifth as URC breaks for autumn internationals

2 Nov 2026

Edinburgh Rugby head into the autumn international window fifth in the BKT United Rugby Championship, with four wins from their opening five matches and 19 points on the board.

Edinburgh won their opening four league games for the first time since 2015/16, and four wins from five matches the club’s start to the 2023/24 season (Sean Everitt’s first campaign in charge).

Two of those wins came on the road and two at Hive Stadium, and Edinburgh topped the table after Rounds 3 and 4.

The opening five rounds

Round 1: Ulster 29-34 Edinburgh – a bonus-point win in Belfast, with tries from Freddy Douglas, Malelili Satala, Hector Patterson and Piers O’Conor, and 14 points from James Grayson.

Round 2: Edinburgh 17-13 DHL Stormers – Rory McHaffie scored the winning try on his home debut.

Round 3: Zebre Parma 12-29 Edinburgh – a four-try bonus-point win, played through two yellow cards.

Round 4: Edinburgh 31-10 10bet Lions – a five-try bonus-point win. Hector Patterson scored twice and Marshall Sykes became the club’s 47th centurion.

Round 5: Benetton 31-12 Edinburgh – tries from Harri Morris and Harry Paterson.

Where Edinburgh stand

Edinburgh have 19 points from five matches, including three try bonus points. Across the whole of last season’s 18 URC games, the side picked up six try bonus points and finished 12th with 38 points.

So far this season, Edinburgh have scored 17 tries and 123 points, and conceded 95.

Young players stepping up

Several of Edinburgh’s younger players have played key roles in the opening block. Rory McHaffie, 19, made his debut off the bench in Belfast before scoring the winner against the Stormers a week later.

Scrum-half Hector Patterson, 21, only made his professional debut in April; this season he has three tries, a Player of the Match award against the Lions and a new contract.

Freddy Douglas, 21, has scored against Ulster and Zebre, and leads the URC for turnovers after five rounds. Ollie Blyth-Lafferty (20), Tom Currie (22), Malelili Satala (22) and Liam McConnell (22) have all been regular contributors, with Currie and Satala on the scoresheet.

Prop Jamie Stewart (20) also made his debut in Parma, becoming Edinburgh player #1358.
