Next up: Bath Rugby

Edinburgh Rugby head to The Rec this Friday night (16 January, kick-off 8pm) for a high-stakes Round 4 clash against Bath Rugby, with a place in the Investec Champions Cup knockout stages on the line.

The capital side kick off the final round of pool stage fixtures in a ‘winner-takes-all’ scenario for top spot in Pool 2.

Following a resilient campaign thus far, Sean Everitt’s men know that a victory at The Rec will officially secure their place in the Round of 16 and potentially guarantee home-field advantage for the first knockout round.

The qualification equation

While a win is the simplest path to the next round, the drama of the final weekend means Edinburgh’s European journey doesn’t necessarily end if they fall short at The Rec.

The pool remains incredibly tight, with only one point separating Bath (11 pts) and Edinburgh (10 pts), while RC Toulon (9 pts) remain within striking distance.

Numerous permutations based on other results across the pool could still see Edinburgh progress even without a win. However, the squad will be looking to take matters into their own hands and settle the score on the pitch.

Seeking revenge

Friday’s match-up is a rematch of last season’s EPCR Challenge Cup Semi-Final at Hive Stadium.

On that occasion, Bath silenced the Edinburgh crowd with a 24-39 victory in a tightly-contested affair.

Returning to the site of one of rugby’s most historic grounds, Edinburgh will be eager to flip the script and secure a famous win on English soil.
