Rivalry in focus: Graham and Boffelli

18 Nov 2022

Throughout the Autumn Nations Series we’ve analysed the Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors players that will be joining forces in November before locking horns in December's 1872 Cup decider at BT Murrayfield.

This week, however, we’ve put the spotlight on two Edinburgh teammates that will be facing each other this Saturday as Scotland welcome Argentina to the Scottish capital in the final Autumn Nations Series Test.

Darcy Graham and Emiliano Boffelli will be marking one another this weekend in a clash of wingmen; one month ahead of resuming club duties to take on Glasgow on the very same pitch.

The pair dueled in Argentina’s summer tour win in South America and now we take a closer look at their impressive form for club and country.

Darcy Graham

The Hawick speedster has been nothing short of sensational this year, dazzling and bamboozling opposition defenders with frightening regularity.

The winger has bagged nine tries in eight appearances for club and country this season, adding finishing touches to sweeping moves, and taking on the task himself with an array of sparkling solo scores.

Graham was at his best against the All Blacks last week, pilfering an intercept score against the world class Southern Hemisphere side, managing to avoid the attentions of Caleb Clarke and Jordie Barrett on the way to dotting down.

Even when he’s not scoring he’s making himself a handful for defenders, as shown in his player of the match performance against Fiji.

The livewire wingman gained 83 metres, made three line breaks, and beat five defenders in a scintillating display.

Emiliano Boffelli

Scotland boast the top try scorer in the United Rugby Championship on their flanks, however not to be outdone, Argentina will be able to call upon the top points scorer in global rugby in 2022.

‘King Boff’ has had more standout moments in 2022 than many will manage in their careers, and has become a firm fan favourite at Edinburgh as he approaches a year at the club.

Boffelli announced himself to the rugby world with his last minute try to clinch a series win against Scotland in the summer, and gained plaudits for his unerring ability under the high ball, finishing prowess, and metronomic kicking.

Edinburgh fans knew all about his abilities already, however his match winning displays against Scotland, Australia, New Zealand and now England have put Boff into the eyes of rugby followers around the world.

The battle between the two wingers tomorrow is an exciting prospect – perhaps only topped by the chance to see them in action together against Glasgow next month.
