Squad return for January block
The Edinburgh Rugby men’s squad returned to training earlier today for the next block of fixtures which starts with an important EPCR Challenge Cup trip to face RC Vannes this Saturday at Stade de la Rabine (11 January, kick-off 1pm GMT).
The senior squad enjoyed a week’s rest following last month’s crucial intercity derby victory over Glasgow Warriors at Scottish Gas Murrayfield in front of a club record crowd of 40,063.
The capital side have welcomed back a number of senior players to full fitness ahead of the run of January matches, including Ben Vellacott, Harry Paterson, Paul Hill and Ewan Ashman.
Edinburgh face Georgian side Black Lion at Hive Stadium in their final EPCR Challenge Cup group match on Sunday 19 January (kick-off 1pm) before returning to URC action against Scarlets at Parc y Scarlets on Saturday 25 January (kick-off 3pm).
Edinburgh Rugby Head Coach Sean Everitt said: “It’s an exciting month for us, competing in both the EPCR Challenge Cup and United Rugby Championship, with three really important fixtures.
“It starts with Vannes this Saturday and they will be desperate to impress in front of their home support.
“We’ll need to play smart rugby, but mentally, we’ve got to understand that getting a win there is going to be really important for us if we want to lift a trophy at the end of the season. We’re excited for the challenge.”
