Crosbie shines at 22/23 Edinburgh Rugby Season Awards

Back-row Luke Crosbie stole the show at Edinburgh Rugby’s 22/23 Season Awards, scooping four prizes on the night, including the most coveted award of the evening, Scottish Building Society Player of the Season.

Crosbie has been in scintillating form throughout the past campaign, becoming the first-ever play to scoop back-to-back Scottish Building Society Player of the Month awards for October and November.

Crosbie’s quality was also recognised on the international stage, where he was handed his first Guinness Six Nations starts in wins against England at Twickenham, and Wales at BT Murrayfield.

Alongside claiming the top prize of the evening, Crosbie was also voted Breadalbane Players’ Player of the Season, as nominated by the Edinburgh Rugby senior squad.

Crosbie also lifted the only fan-voted award of the evening, when he was presented the Caullie Lug by the Edinburgh Rugby Fans Group, given to the player who has displayed the most commitment to the jersey. It’s the second time Crosbie has claimed the ‘Caullie Lug’ having been voted the winner in the 2020/21 season.

Finally, Crosbie scooped the BMW Peter Vardy Man of Steel award, a prize tallied throughout the season for the team’s best defender.

With the evening of celebration hosted at the city’s Edinburgh International Conference Centre, with players, staff, sponsors and supporters all in attendance, there were also prizes for a number of other top performers on the night.

Patrick Harrison was named My Name’5 Doddie Pro Academy Player of the Year after a breakout season for the club, while Marshall Sykes picked up Uhuru Rum Young Player of the Season after impressing in the capital pack.

Elsewhere, stand-off Charlie Savala claimed the It’s Good 2 Give Most Improved Player award, having stepped up in the number 10 jersey this past season, as Henry Immelman picked up the Scottish Building Society Our Burgh Community Award for going above and beyond in community outreach.

Finally, there was a prize for departing club centurion Stuart McInally as his commitment and service to the club was recognised with the Breadalbane Leadership Award.

Speaking on the evening’s award winners, Head Coach Mike Blair, said: “It’s important we applaud this past season’s top performers, whose hard work, dedication and commitment was properly recognised throughout a fantastic evening attended by our players, staff, sponsors and supporters.

“It was brilliant to see Luke Crosbie pick up four awards on the evening, capping off a special season for a great guy who has developed into a really important player for both club and country.

“It was also a truly special moment to finish the awards night by paying tribute to Stuart McInally who will depart the club later this year following over a decade of rugby in the Scottish capital.

“A massive thank you to all sponsors and fans who backed a really special night at the EICC, bringing a close to the 22/23 season.”
