Papa Johns Tartan Touch kicks-off at Leinster!

Papa Johns Tartan Touch kicks-off at Leinster!

Not only is Saturday’s (4 March, kick-off 5.05pm) unmissable clash against Leinster a chance to see Scotland and Ireland stars going to toe-to-toe at DAM Health Stadium, but supporters can also look forward to an array of activates that will form part of the club’s Family Fun Day!

One of those activities will be a Papa Johns Tartan Touch festival that will run on Pitch 2 (situated behind the Lothian Stand) from 3.45pm to 4.45pm, with teams from rom Dalkeith, North Berwick, Lismore, Leith, Musselburgh and Lasswade all taking part ahead of kick-off!

The two ‘finalists’ will then take part in a showpiece final at half-time of the main event, with Edinburgh Rugby hosting unbeaten Leinster in Round 15 of the BKT United Rugby Championship.

Edinburgh Rugby Community Manager Ruaridh Pye says this Saturday’s Leinster match is the perfect chance for supporters to watch Tartan Touch in action ahead of the initiative kicking off this summer.

He said: “Tartan Touch is a brilliant way for rugby fans of all ages and abilities to get into a simplified version of the sport.

“It’s been brilliant working with Chris Pacey and the team at Rugby Development in setting up Saturday’s festival and we can’t wait to welcome six teams from clubs situated in our supporting regions.

“Saturday’s Family Fun Day will be a cracking day out, with Tartan Touch only one of the activities running in the build-up to the big kick-off at DAM Health Stadium.”

Running between May and July, Tartan Touch is designed to provide a simplified version of rugby with the aim of attracting players of all abilities, ages and levels of experience who are looking to improve their fitness, begin their rugby journey or return to the sport, through simple and social activity.

This year’s programme will see 70 clubs operate as Tartan Touch hubs throughout the summer, with a record number of successful applicants being chosen, including 22 newly established hubs.

Each Tartan Hub will be supported by their Regional Manager and Scottish Rugby’s Tartan Touch Operational Team.

Support will include provision of kit and equipment to help transform the club into a Tartan Touch Hub, as well as marketing support including a Tartan Touch nationwide marketing campaign and promotional toolkit.

Since 2018 the number of hubs in clubs across Scotland has more than doubled from the original 30 selected, and previous seasons of the programme have seen hubs across the country welcome over 4,000 players aged 5 to 75 years old from having never played rugby to retired players.
