We're delighted to welcome our Official Charity Partner, It's Good 2 Give, as Rob Carmichael's player sponsor for the 2025/26 Season
It’s good to give is a Scottish based charity that supports young cancer patients and their families. It was founded by Lynne and Ian McNicoll in 2010.
At the very heart of the charity is the residential venue – The Ripple Retreat, situated on the shores of Loch Venacher, outside Callander, where individual families can stay. It provides the perfect surroundings to nurture both physical and mental well-being in a uniquely beautiful natural retreat away from the everyday realities of living with cancer.

What makes you or your organisation unique, and what values are most important to you?
We partner very closely with related NHS Cancer services and in particular with those who lead “on the ground” in young people cancer units to ensure we can respond quickly and at key points that we know our services will make a difference along the cancer journey.
We are a relatively small charity, deliberately, and so retain a fleet of foot approach to our decision-making, ensuring the funds we raise are used in a timely manner and at individual critical points for affected families.
What inspired you to support this player as a sponsor?
Partnership is a key word for the charity and it underpins how we go about what we do – it is part of our DNA. It is therefore part of how we want to work with Edinburgh Rugby and in particular the players. It was therefore a natural step to find a player that embodied the principle of the charity and also personally was very active in supporting the charity.
In what ways does the player reflect qualities or values that resonate with you or your organisation?
Rob has a very evident give back attitude which is evident from his approach to supporting communities, inside and outside of rugby. He has taken the time to get to know us and what we do, he has spent time helping at The Ripple Retreat and has helped us on many occasions with our fundraising efforts at Edinburgh Rugby home matches.
What do you admire most about the player, both in their sporting career and as an individual?
Rob’s commitment and tenacity to what he does, inside and outside of rugby, is very evident. We also love his sense of fun and friendship – all of which makes him a perfect member of the It’s good 2 give team.
How do you hope this sponsorship will benefit your brand / business?
Edinburgh Rugby is a high profile organisation and with strong links to many sectors of life, business, community and family. These are the ideal sectors that we would like to extend the general awareness of the charity and or mission in supporting your cancer patients and their families.
I also hope we can bring benefit to Rob and allow him to be recognised for his personal attributes as much as his technical attributes on the rugby pitch.
What are your hopes for the future of this sponsorship and your relationship with the player and Edinburgh Rugby?
I have no doubt the sponsorship of Rob will extend the basis of our partnership with Edinburgh Rugby and establish greater awareness with the other partners, sponsors and communities that Edinburgh Rugby have.
Rob’s personal enthusiasm for the charity will also bring benefit to us as he acts as a champion for us within the Edinburgh Rugby organisation.
If you could share one message with supporters / local businesses about your involvement, what would it be?
We have overwhelming evidence from this individuals and families we have supported on what a difference the services we provide make. Our achievements are only possible because of the support we receive in our fundraising efforts from individuals and organisations. The help and input from Edinburgh Rugby, their sponsors and partners and, in particular, their supporters, has been huge over the last few years. We are extremely grateful for this and hope we can build even more support for the charity and the partnership.
