Wolfenden named captain for Scotland U20 Six Nations campaign

29 Jan 2026

Edinburgh Rugby’s presence within the national age-grade setup is stronger than ever following Head Coach Fergus Pringle’s announcement of the initial Scotland Men U20 squad for the 2026 U20 Six Nations.

In a proud moment for the club’s pathway, ten Edinburgh Rugby players have been selected for the 31-man squad, including academy stand-off Ross Wolfenden, who has been handed the honour of captaining his country for the upcoming campaign.

The capital’s influence is felt right across the park, with Edinburgh talent forming a vital core of both the forwards and the backs.

Joining captain Wolfenden in the backline are scrum-half Hamish MacArthur, centre Henry Kesterton and a clinical group of back-three options in Nairn Moncrieff, Rory McHaffie, and Henry Widdowson.

In the pack, the club is represented by the physical presence of props Jamie Stewart and Sam Byrd, hooker Jack Utterson, and athletic second-row Christian Lindsay, who returns to the squad after making his tournament debut at just 17 years old last season.

Supporters will have plenty of opportunities to see these young stars in action as Scotland U20’s fixtures mirror the senior Men’s Championship.

The campaign kicks off away to Italy in Treviso on Friday 6 February, but the highlight for Edinburgh fans will be the two home fixtures hosted right here at Hive Stadium.

Scotland will welcome England on Friday 13 February and France on Friday 6 March to the capital, with away trips to Wales (20 February) and Ireland (15 March) completing the schedule.

Head Coach Fergus Pringle is optimistic about the potential of this group as they prepare for the rigours of international rugby, stating: “This is an exciting group that have had some time together in training camps over a number of weeks now, and we’re looking forward to this Championship.

“It’s really important for our best young players to be playing in meaningful games at a high level where they will be really challenged, and they will all experience that across the five fixtures.

“The coaches are hoping to see the sort of performances we know these players are capable of, and hopefully we will continue to see improvement from the group individually and collectively throughout the tournament.”
