Tickets for the opening leg of rugby's oldest derby go on general sale this Friday (14 August) at 2pm, as Edinburgh Rugby host Glasgow Warriors in the 1872 Cup at Scottish Gas Murrayfield on Saturday 27 December.
This year, the capital clash is the only 1872 Cup meeting between the two sides over the festive period, with the second and deciding leg moved to Glasgow’s Hampden Park in April. That makes this Boxing week fixture unmissable for anyone wanting their intercity rugby fix this Christmas.
With the whole family in Edinburgh over the festive period, there’s no better way to spend a day together than cheering on Edinburgh Rugby as the best talent from both cities go head-to-head for bragging rights.
Fans can expect to see Duhan van der Merwe and Darcy Graham tearing it up out wide, Ewan Ashman leading the pack forward, and a first look at summer signings Riley Higgins and Louie Chapman in front of a home Scottish Gas Murrayfield crowd.
The fixture has become one of the highlights of the Scottish rugby calendar, with attendances climbing year on year – close to 40,000 packed into Scottish Gas Murrayfield last season, following a crowd of over 40,000 in 2024.
Edinburgh will be out to get their hands back on the famous trophy and lay down a marker in the opening leg before the sides meet again at Hampden in the spring.
