Rugby's oldest derby is back – tickets for the opening leg of the 1872 Cup are now available to buy, as Edinburgh Rugby welcome Glasgow Warriors to Scottish Gas Murrayfield on Saturday 27 December.

This year’s capital clash carries extra weight as the only 1872 Cup meeting between the two sides over the festive period, with the second and deciding leg heading to Glasgow’s Hampden Park in April.

For anyone craving their intercity rugby fix this Christmas, this Boxing week showdown is the one not to miss!

With the family together in Edinburgh over the festive break, there’s no better way to spend the day than roaring on Edinburgh Rugby as the best Scottish talent from both cities collide for bragging rights.

Expect Duhan van der Merwe and Darcy Graham to cause havoc out wide, Ewan Ashman driving things forward up front, and your first look at summer signings Riley Higgins and Louie Chapman pulling on the jersey in front of a home Scottish Gas Murrayfield crowd.

The fixture has grown into one of the standout dates on the Scottish rugby calendar, with crowds swelling year on year – close to 40,000 filled Scottish Gas Murrayfield last season, on the back of a 40,000-plus record turnout in 2024.

Edinburgh will be looking to reclaim the famous trophy and make an early statement in the opening leg, ahead of the return fixture at Hampden in the spring.
