Friday nights are alright: URC fixtures announced!

11 Jul 2023

Friday night fixtures are back in the Scottish capital as league organisers today confirmed the schedule for the upcoming 2023/24 BKT United Rugby Championship season.

Five of the capital club’s nine regular home fixtures in 2023/24 will take place on Friday nights, giving fans the chance to once again kickstart their weekends with Edinburgh Rugby.

Coupled with two Friday night home pre-season fixtures against Connacht and Bath Rugby – and EPCR Challenge Cup matches yet to be announced – the Friday night lights will once again be shining this autumn.

Fans can look forward to a number of mouth-watering home fixtures in 2023/24 as Emirates Lions, Connacht, Vodacom Bulls, Benetton, Glasgow Warriors, Ospreys, Scarlets, Zebre Parma and Munster all visit the Scottish capital.

Edinburgh’s home opener comes in Round 2 as South African side Emirates Lions return to town on Saturday 28 October (kick-off 5pm).

Fans can get then get buckled in for a trio of home fixtures in Rounds 4, 5 and 6 as Edinburgh Rugby take on Connacht (Saturday 11 November, 7.35pm), Vodacom Bulls (Friday 17 November, 7.35pm) and Benetton (Friday 24 November) in an unmissable home stretch.

The festive period sees the return of the historic 1872 Cup intercity derbies, with Edinburgh Rugby once again hosting the second and decisive leg at BT Murrayfield on Saturday 30 December at the ever-popular 3pm kick-off slot.

Edinburgh supporters will have to wait until March for BKT URC action to return to EH12, however it’s yet another Friday night fixture as Ospreys make the trip north on Friday 1 March (kick-off 7.35pm).

The capital club then take on another Welsh side, Scarlets, in Round 14, as the Llanelli side visit Edinburgh for a Saturday night clash the following month (20 April, kick-off 7.35pm).

Edinburgh Rugby then close out the campaign with back-to-back fixtures under Friday night lights, against Zebre Parma (10 May, kick-off 7.35pm) and then BKT URC champions Munster (17 May, 7.35pm).

Securing a 2023/24 Season Ticket remains the best value way to your guarantee your place in the capital for every regular season home game in both the BKT United Rugby Championship and EPCR Challenge Cup.

Buying a Season Ticket will save supporters, on average, around 30% on matchday prices, while also offering an array of benefits including exclusive open training sessions and member events, as well as priority access to knockout BKT URC and European match tickets.

With an interest free, direct debit payment plan (up to four monthly payments) and student tickets starting at £99, there is a Season Ticket Membership for everyone to join another massive campaign in the Scottish capital.

Reacting to today’s fixture announcement, Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director Douglas Struth said: “A lot of work with both the league and broadcasters has gone in to secure a brilliant run of home fixtures for the upcoming campaign, with five out of nine URC matches on Friday nights.

“Combined with two home Friday night pre-season games – and with the EPCR Challenge Cup fixtures to follow – the anticipation is already building for another massively exciting campaign in the Scottish capital.

Struth continued: “We listened to supporters’ feedback over the last two years and it’s clear that Friday nights work for a large portion of our fanbase, while the Saturday afternoon slot was the clear favourite for the 1872 Cup decider, so we’re grateful to fans for their feedback and to the tournament organisers for helping us build a well-balanced fixture card for the forthcoming season.

“Whether you’re heading to the game after work, or coming to the match with your teammates, we want supporters to start their weekend with Edinburgh Rugby this season.”
