Edinburgh ‘A’ made it two wins from two against Glasgow ‘A’ this season with Rob Chrystie’s side securing a 12-29 victory at Scotstoun Stadium earlier this afternoon (Friday 18th October).
Tries from Harri Morris, Lewis Wells, Charlie Shiel, Findlay Thomson and Jack Brown saw the capital side run out deserved winners in Glasgow’s west end.
Edinburgh ‘A’ took an early and commanding 0-10 lead at Scotstoun, with the opening score coming off the back of a strong driving maul.
With back-row duo Liam McConnell and Freddy Douglas carrying well in the loose, the ball was eventually recycled to Harris Morris who crashed over from close range.
The capital side soon doubled their advantaged thanks to winger Wells. A fine team move eventually found the hard-running winger who touched down in the corner.
Glasgow hit back to make 7-10 before stoic Edinburgh defence kept the hosts at bay just before half-time.
The hosts scored immediately after half-time to take a 12-10 lead, however that was to be Glasgow’s only score of the second-half as Edinburgh took control.
Dusting themselves off, a Ben Healy cross-field kick very nearly put Tom Dodd in for the go-ahead score, before centre Thomson eventually crashed over just a few phases later.
That score was quickly followed by a fine solo effort from Shiel. The scrum-half showed electric feet to dance through the Glasgow defence before rounding the hosts’ full-back to touch down under the sticks.
Tom Currie then showed strong carrying abilities from the back of the scrum to set up replacement Brown for an acrobatic finish in the corner, rounding off proceedings at a damp and misty Scotstoun.
There were plenty of impressive performances throughout the ‘A’ side with Freddy Douglas a constant threat at the breakdown. Thomson provided go-forward in midfield while Rob Carmichael got through his share of work in the capital pack.
Edinburgh ‘A’ take on Ealing Trailfinders next up, travelling to face the English side at Trailfinders Sports Club next Saturday (26 October, kick-off 2pm).
