Edinburgh Rugby Academy set to compete at the 2025 Howden Melrose Sevens

Edinburgh Rugby is delighted to announce that an Edinburgh Rugby Academy side will compete at the 2025 Howden Melrose Sevens, held at The Greenyards on the weekend of 22 May.

The team will comprise of a selection of Edinburgh Rugby Academy players, providing a valuable opportunity for the club’s youngsters to test themselves at the oldest sevens tournament in the world, which dates back to 1883.

This marks the club’s return to the world-famous tournament for the first time since lifting the Ladies Cup in 2016.

Edinburgh Rugby Academy Coach, Kris Burney expressed his excitement about the academy team’s participation, and said:

“We are thrilled to confirm that an Edinburgh Rugby Academy side will be competing at the Melrose Sevens. This is an incredible opportunity for our young players to continue their progression with the club, building on the success of our ‘A’ team programme.

“The Melrose Sevens is a world-famous tournament, known and respected across the entire rugby landscape, and to take part in such an iconic event will be a pretty special occasion for our younger players.

“We are committed to developing our Academy players and providing them with the best possible opportunities to grow, and the Melrose Sevens is a perfect platform for that.”

Tournament Director, Phil Morris, added:

“We are delighted to have Edinburgh Rugby Academy competing at the 2025 Howden Melrose Sevens. The tournament has a rich history of highlighting exciting young talent, and it’s fantastic to see one of Scotland’s professional clubs bringing their next generation to compete at The Greenyards.

“The Melrose Sevens is an event with global recognition, and we’re sure the Edinburgh Rugby Academy players will relish the challenge of competing against top-level opposition in front of our passionate crowd.”

The Edinburgh Rugby Academy team to compete at the 2025 Howden Melrose Sevens will be announced ahead of the tournament in May.
