We can’t set the scrum and the hosts are awarded a free kick. Carreras clears it.
Frustrating. Our maul is stopped dead and we’re not going anywhere. Scrum to Gloucester.
We’re back to full strength as Sykes returns.
A huge effort from the maul takes us deep into Gloucester’s 22. They give away two penalties and we try to play the advantage but nothing comes from it. We kick to the corner for a line out on the five.
We’re awarded a penalty on the ten metre line. Healy takes us into the 22.
Anscombe fails his HIA and won’t return to play.
Skinner makes way for Carmichael and Shiel for McAlpine. The academy prospects make their debut for the club.
It’s frantic stuff as Healy sends it off his left boot towards the wing. Sweeney can’t collect it but Gloucester knock it on.
Lang comes on for Tuipulotu.
We try to build up a head of steam but Gloucester defend stubbornly. Healy sends it high and the mark is called.
Carreras sends it wide. Gloucester lead by two scores.
The hosts form a big drive off the line out and Tuisue scores.
Gloucester take it deep and we’re penalised. The hosts try to play the advantage but knock it on.
Dodd is back on from his time in the bin, but the referee has deemed the head contact worthy of a yellow card for Sykes. We remain at 14 men.
Anscombe is off for an HIA. Barton is on in the meantime. The head contact is being looked at.
Sykes is deemed to have changed his line into Anscombe and Gloucester are awarded a penalty.
We put the hosts in a spot of bother, sending them deep into their half and even charging down a kick. Gloucester manage to clear it.
Healy comes on for Thompson. Gloucester bring on Fasogbon and Tuisue.
Gloucester take it forward and we’re penalised. Carreras kicks for the corner and misses it. We get awarded the scrum.
Gloucester make a break and both McCann and Currie do well to disrupt it. We’ll resume with a scrum.
Singleton comes on for Blake.
The TMO deems that the ball was held up so it’ll be a goal line dropout.
Gloucester think they’ve scored but the referees on field decision is no try. It goes to the TMO.
Penalty from Dodd is deemed cynical by the referee and he’s sent to the bin. Gloucester kick into our 5 metre line.
Gloucester win the scrum and send it wide to Wade who dinks it through. It bounces off of Tuipulotu. We come back for the penalty advantage on the ten metre line.
We try to get some attacking flow but that pesky wet ball plays its part. Scrum to Gloucester on the halfway.
Goosen shows off some football skills and sends the ball high. Blake can’t quite take it and we get a scrum on the halfway.
Llewellyn comes off for Butler.
The home side have their noses back in front as Carreras adds an easy three points.
Tuipulotu is penalised for not releasing the tackled player. Gloucester with a penalty inside our 22 and Carreras goes for the sticks.
Cherry is on for Harrison. Rae is on for Hill.
Carreras takes a kick well and unleashes Hathaway down the wing who kicks it through. He can’t collect it and we retain the ball to clear it.
We are back underway at Kingsholm. Carreras kicks it long.
And that is actually half time.
Some confusion there as the referee whistles for half time, but then brings it back for a scrum for us.
Gloucester throw the ball in but it’s deemed not straight. There’s a tussle between the two teams after the decision is given.
We look like we’ve won the ball back after the line out but we’re penalised for diving on the ball. Gloucester kick for the corner again.
We challenge the hosts in the maul but we can’t roll away. Gloucester kick for the corner.
After some scrappy play Shiel tries to clear it but it was carried back into the 22. Gloucester with a line out in a good position for them.
Thompson slots an easy one. Game on.
We build off the penalty advantage from the maul, it looks like Goosen is tackled but he lets go of the ball and regathers and does incredibly well to finish.
Taylor can’t roll away quick enough and we get a penalty. Thompson takes us into the Gloucester 5 metre line with a great kick.
That’s a bit more like it. We challenge Gloucester in the scrum and come away with a penalty. Thompson gets us just inside the hosts half.
We take the line out well but the ball gets trapped in the maul. It collapses and it’ll be a scrum for Gloucester.
Dodd knocks the ball on and Gloucester attempt to regather but McConnell tackles the player without the ball. Gloucester clear to just before the halfway.
Hathaway tries to kick through but it ricochets off of Goosen. The fullback chases and regathers on the Gloucester five metre line, but we can’t get there to support and the hosts win the ball back.
Currie spills a high ball and Hathaway looks set to regather and score. The winger knocks it on and we resume with a scrum for Gloucester.
Arthur Clark makes way for Taylor.
We look good going forward and we’re building confidence, but the wet ball lets us down again as we knock it on just outside the Gloucester 22.
Currie reads Anscombe’s kick beautifully and breaks out of our 22 and ships it off to Sweeney who carries it into the Gloucester 22 but he can’t get his pass away. Gloucester clear the ball.
We close the gap at the line out and give away a free kick. Dodd wins a crucial turnover to relieve some pressure after Gloucester build up a head of steam.
Sadly Douglas has continued to struggle with his ankle. He’s replaced by Liam McConnell who comes on to make his first appearance for the club.
A mental lapse for Gloucester as they can’t get their line out to function and give away a free kick. We clear the ball up to the half way.
It almost looks like Hill has stripped the ball, but he’s penalised for not releasing the tackled player. Gloucester kick into our 22.
We get to catch our breath as there’s a break in play for Douglas to get his ankle looked at. He’s good to go and we resume play with a line out to Gloucester.
The wet weather is really effecting us here as we struggle to hold onto the ball. Scrum for Gloucester just inside their half.
We start to build in Gloucester’s half but lose the ball as it gets kicked into our 22. Gloucester give away a penalty for not rolling away. Thompson kicks for the line, taking us to the half way line.
Carreras adds the extras to give the hosts a 7-0 lead.
Gloucester bring the ball down off the line out for a maul, with the West Country side pushing over for a try.
Gloucester force a penalty in the scrum and try to make something of it, but play breaks down shortly after. They kick for the line, getting them within our five metre line.
Gloucester are playing the weather and hoof the ball high. Goosen can’t collect it cleanly and knocks it on.
The first scrum of the game results in a free kick for Gloucester.
We chip away at the Gloucester defence but they stubborn and physical in their defences efforts. The wet weather leads to an Edinburgh knock-on.
After a physical start by both sides, Dodd wins a turnover from a ruck on the halfway.
We are officially underway at Kingsholm.
