Get ready to LIGHT UP Hive Stadium this Friday night!

2 Oct 2025

Edinburgh Rugby is set to debut an innovative, club-first pre-match mobile phone Light Show at Hive Stadium this Friday night (3 October), as the capital side takes on Ulster in its first BKT United Rugby Championship (URC) home game of the season.

Edinburgh Rugby fans can light up Hive Stadium for the first time via the pre-match mobile phone Light Show, which utilises CUE Audio’s groundbreaking technology to synchronise the mobile devices of those in attendance.

CUE Audio is a US-based fan experience pioneer whose innovative technology has been used at major sporting fixtures across the NFL, NHL, MLB, and NCAA competitions, as well as at F1’s Las Vegas and Miami Grand Prixs.

Edinburgh fans are invited to welcome the teams to the pitch by participating in the Light Show, which is set to music and powered by the mobile phones of those in attendance.

Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director Douglas Struth has encouraged fans to play their part in creating an unforgettable atmosphere.

“This is an incredible first for the club, and we want to make the pre-match light show as spectacular as possible to light up our URC home opener,” Struth said.

“I’m encouraging as many fans as possible to take part in this unique welcome for the team. Please make sure you download the app before arriving at the stadium on Friday to ensure you can join in the show!”

How to participate

In order to participate, match-goers simply have to download the Stadium FX app on their mobile device before the fixture. The app is available for all Apple or Android users via this link, or via the QR code below.

Once the Stadium FX app has been downloaded, CUE’s technology does not require cellular service, Bluetooth, or an internet connection to work, eliminating any potential connectivity issues on matchday.

The process is simple:

  • Download ‘Stadium FX’ app HERE for iOS or HERE for Android, or via the QR code below, on your mobile phone before arriving at Hive Stadium on Friday evening.
  • Accept the ‘Terms of Use’ and ‘Privacy Policy’ when prompted on screen.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to enable microphone and camera permissions in the app.
  • Listen out inside the stadium for an announcement that the Light Show is about to begin – this will be just before the teams enter the field, so make sure you’re in your seats early!
  • Open the app and point your phone camera towards the pitch – Edinburgh and Cue will take care of the rest, with the Stadium FX app synching mobile phone camera lights and screens to the music.
  • Fans are encouraged to keep their Stadium FX app open throughout the duration of the light show

Supporters who wish to capture the moment on their mobile phones while not missing out on taking part can do so. Images and video can be recorded inside the Stadium FX app – simply hit the video or photo buttons at the bottom of your screen and all content will automatically be saved in your camera roll.

Health & safety advisory

Supporters with photosensitive disorders, sensitivities to strobe lighting or adverse reactions to flashing light are advised that they may wish to avoid being within the stadium bowl until the show has concluded.
