Inspiring Ella set to take centre stage

26 Mar 2025

Edinburgh Rugby is delighted to announce that ten-year-old Ella Horribine will have the honour of delivering the match ball ahead of Friday night's BKT United Rugby Championship clash against Dragons RFC at Hive Stadium.

The upcoming fixture on Friday night will be a special one, not just for the rugby action on the pitch, but also for the heartwarming story of a young, passionate fan.

Ella, a dedicated player for local side Murrayfield Wanderers, will take centre stage in a moment that celebrates her incredible spirit.

Just over a year ago, Ella faced a significant challenge when she woke up partially deaf. However, this hasn’t dimmed her enthusiasm for rugby in the slightest.

Despite now being completely deaf in one ear, Ella continues to play with a huge smile on her face, embodying the true spirit of the sport.

Ella was in when she was invited to meet some of her favourite Edinburgh Rugby players. The big reveal of her match ball delivery opportunity was made in person, allowing Ella to meet and interact with the likes of Wes Goosen, Ben Vellacott, and James Lang.

In a special afternoon, Ella even took the opportunity to teach the players how to sign their own names in British Sign Language (BSL), creating a special connection and sharing a valuable skill.

As a VIP guest at Friday night’s match, Ella and her parents will be treated to a special evening. Her ball delivery will be a key part of the club’s Support our Services night, an occasion where Edinburgh Rugby once again pays tribute to the heroes within the NHS, emergency services, armed forces and social care sector.

Ahead of the kick-off, Ella will proudly carry the match ball onto the pitch in front of the Hive Stadium faithful.

The evening promises to be filled with activities and celebrations in support of the theme, with representatives from the police and military present in the fan zone to highlight the vital work they do within the community.

Join us at Hive Stadium on Friday night to witness this inspiring moment and show your support for Ella and all our heroes on Support our Services night.
