Lochi’s big day: Young fan set for ball delivery at Black Lion
Thirteen-year-old Lochi McCready is set to experience a day he will never forget this Sunday as he delivers the match ball ahead of Edinburgh Rugby's EPCR Challenge Cup clash against Black Lion at Hive Stadium.
Lochi, who is currently receiving treatment at the city’s Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, was surprised by the news earlier this week in truly unforgettable fashion.
During a family visit to the club’s training ground, he was greeted by his heroes – Duhan van der Merwe and Pierre Schoeman – who delivered the exciting news.
Lochi, who missed the opportunity to meet the squad during their annual visit to the hospital over the Christmas period, expressed his excitement: “I was so shocked when Duhan and Pierre told me I would be delivering the match ball!
“I thought I was just coming in to watch training and meet a couple of players, but it’s more than I could have ever imagined. I can’t wait to bring the match ball on this Sunday.”

Duhan presents Lochi with a jersey before surprising him with ball delivery news.
The young fan and his family will enjoy the VIP treatment on matchday, attending hospitality before taking centre stage to deliver the ‘DHL match ball’ to the centre of the pitch ahead of kick-off.
Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director, Douglas Struth, commented: “This will be a very special moment for Lochi, and we are delighted to be able to give him this unique experience.
“Engaging with our young supporters is incredibly important to us, and we hope Lochi has a brilliant day, creating a lasting memory alongside his Edinburgh Rugby heroes.”
