Uhuru Rum donate on-kit sponsorship to Tusk for European clash
Edinburgh Rugby’s Official Rum Partner, Uhuru Rum, today donated their on-kit sponsor position to official charity ‘Tusk’ for this Sunday’s Heineken Champions Cup match against Castres Olympique at the Stade Pierre Fabre (15 January, kick-off 1pm GMT).
The Uhuru brand normally features on the collar bone of the club’s home and alternate Macron match kit but will be replaced with the logo of the conservation charity for the match in France, where legislation prohibits alcohol companies from advertising during sports events.
Tusk is a British non-profit organisation set up for the protection of threatened wildlife species across Africa and already benefits from 10% of Uhuru’s net sales, with this latest initiative designed to help their cause further still.
Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director, Douglas Struth, added: “Uhuru Rum is a company with a conscience, and it’s one of the many reasons we’re so proud to carry their brand on our playing kit.
“Uhuru Rum and their brilliant team based in Edinburgh support Tusk and their conservation work in Africa all year round, so it’s fantastic to help them develop their support for a cause they care about so greatly through our partnership.”
Uhuru Rum joined Edinburgh Rugby’s commercial family ahead of the current campaign, signing a two-year deal as the club’s Official Rum Partner.
Created and bottled by the city’s Young Spirits team, Uhuru means ‘freedom’ in Swahili, with its origins arising from the rum producers’ trips to Africa, where safari adventures turned into a passion for wildlife conservation.
Tusk CEO, Charlie Mayhew MBE said: “We greatly value our partnership with Uhuru and are thrilled to be recognised by Edinburgh Rugby at such a high-profile game.
“Enormous thanks to Uhuru and Edinburgh Rugby for their tremendous support and for helping Tusk reach a new and wide audience.”
