Club centurion Crosbie pens capital extension

Edinburgh Rugby is delighted to announce that Scotland international back-row and club centurion Luke Crosbie has signed a new two-year deal.

The 28-year-old has been a consistently outstanding performer for both Edinburgh Rugby and Scotland since emerging from the club’s academy in 2017. A tenacious and influential figure, Crosbie is currently recovering from a pectoral injury but is on track to return to full training in June ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Commenting on his new two-year deal, Crosbie said: “I have immense pride in being a one-club man and reaching my century of appearances for my hometown club. So, it was a no-brainer to put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

“Edinburgh Rugby is in my blood, and I’m more determined than ever to bounce back from this injury and represent the team in 2025/26.

“I want to be a leader within this group, and I genuinely feel like the club continues to go from strength to strength, both on and off the field. I’m excited to be a part of that journey moving forward.”

A product of Livingston RFC and Currie RFC, Crosbie made his Edinburgh debut against Zebre in October 2017.

Crosbie reached his 50th Edinburgh appearance against Scarlets in February 2021 and later that year captained his boyhood club for the first time in a Rainbow Cup victory over Zebre at home.

His exceptional form in the 2020-21 season saw him named Edinburgh Rugby’s Player of the Season and awarded the ‘Caullie Lug’ for outstanding commitment.

The 2022/23 season was another stellar campaign for Crosbie, as he became the first player to win back-to-back Scottish Building Society Player of the Month awards (October and November). His quality was also recognised internationally, earning his first Guinness Six Nations starts in memorable victories against England at Twickenham and Wales at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

That season, he went on to claim the Player of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season, his second ‘Caullie Lug’, and the Man of Steel award.

The imposing back-row marked his 100th appearance for Edinburgh away against Benetton Rugby, a significant milestone for a player who has risen through the ranks in his hometown.

On the international stage, Crosbie debuted for Scotland against Tonga in October 2021 and has since earned 12 caps, including selection for the 2023 Rugby World Cup and co-captaincy for Scotland’s recent summer tour match against Canada.

Edinburgh Rugby Head Coach Sean Everitt commented: “Luke is a hugely important player for Edinburgh Rugby, and his re-signing is fantastic news for the club.

“His toughness and immense pride in representing his hometown are key attributes that set the standard within our squad.

“Luke’s experience and leadership will be invaluable in guiding our talented group of back-row forwards, many of whom are local lads themselves, over the next two years. Securing a quality operator like Luke in our pack is a significant boost for us.”
