‘Determined’ Boyle targeting comeback after penning extension
Edinburgh Rugby today confirmed that back-row Connor Boyle has signed a new one-year deal with the capital club.
Boyle, 25, is currently recovering from a knee injury sustained in an ‘A’ team fixture earlier this season but is on track to return to training in September, with this new deal locking him in for 2025/26.
A product of the Edinburgh pathway, Boyle represented the region at every age-grade before making his professional debut in October 2020, becoming Edinburgh player #1280. To date, the abrasive flanker has made 42 appearances for his hometown team.
Commenting on his new deal, Boyle said: “While this season has been frustrating with the injury, knowing that I’ll be back in the Edinburgh jersey next year is a massive motivation for me.
“Representing this club, my hometown team, means absolutely everything, and I can’t wait to get back out on the pitch at Hive Stadium. This setback has been tough, but I’m determined to come back stronger and make a big impact for Edinburgh in the 2025/26 season.
“I’m also hugely grateful for the faith Edinburgh have shown in offering me this new deal, and I’m determined to repay that trust on the field.”
Growing up a stone’s throw from Scottish Gas Murrayfield and a former pupil at Stewart’s Melville College, Boyle has represented Scotland at U16, U18, and U20 levels, while captaining the U20 side during the 2019 Six Nations.
A graduate of the Edinburgh Rugby pro-academy, Boyle gained senior rugby experience with Stewart’s Melville RFC and Watsonians while studying at Heriot Watt University.
Boyle enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2021/22, becoming a regular feature in the Edinburgh pack. That season’s 1872 Cup opening leg at Scotstoun saw his abilities shine as he started at openside, exerting his dominance at the breakdown with numerous turnovers and steals.
Boyle joins fellow young Scottish back-rowers Ben Muncaster and Freddy Douglas in penning new deals with Edinburgh Rugby, further bolstering the club’s forward options for the upcoming season.
Head Coach Sean Everitt added: “I’ve been consistently impressed by Connor’s resilience and determination, and I have full belief that he will come back strongly from this injury.
“It’s fantastic to have another local lad extend his terms with us. You can see how much it means to Connor to play for Edinburgh, his boyhood team, and that passion is invaluable to the squad.”
