The Brighton-born back arrives at Hive Stadium having established himself as one of the most exciting young outside backs in Champ Rugby, racking up six tries in 14 appearances for Ealing Trailfinders this season.
Gwynn’s rugby journey began at the age of four at Lewes RFC, before he went on to represent Brunel University RFC. He signed for Ealing Trailfinders in 2022 and has since developed into a potent attacking threat, capable of playing at wing or centre.
That development has been recognised at international level, with Gwynn earning 13 caps for Scotland U20 – whom he co-captained in their final match of the 2024 Six Nations – before stepping up to Emerging Scotland.
He scored two tries against Japan to help Scotland reach the final of the World Rugby U20 Trophy, and has since added further senior Emerging Scotland caps to his collection.
Gwynn has a strong personal connection to the Scottish capital – his mother was born in Edinburgh and raised in Midlothian – and the move represents something of a homecoming for the powerful 6ft 2in back.
On joining Edinburgh, Gwynn said: “I’m delighted to sign for Edinburgh. It’ll be really nice to see some familiar faces, and I’m looking forward to getting to know the rest of the players and staff.
“Playing in front of such passionate fans in a competitive league is something that I’m really excited for. I believe Edinburgh is the perfect place for me to develop my game, continue improving, and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”
Head Coach Sean Everitt added: “We’re delighted to welcome Geordie to Edinburgh this summer. He’s an explosive, dynamic back who has impressed everyone who has watched him come through the age-grade ranks, and his performances with Scotland U20 showed he has the quality and temperament to compete at the highest level.
“Six tries in 14 games this season is a solid return for a young winger still developing his game, and he’s shown plenty of promise throughout the campaign. He further bolsters what is already an exciting and competitive back line, and at just 22, with the pathway he’s already been through, we genuinely believe he has everything he needs to kick on and fulfil his potential here. We can’t wait to get him involved.”
