In the pack, Pierre Schoeman (loosehead) and Ewan Ashman (hooker) again pack down in the front row, with Grant Gilchrist (lock) behind his capital teammates.
Club centurion Jamie Ritchie comes into the matchday 23, named in the replacements as Townsend opts for a 6-2 bench split to face the Boks.
