Price extends capital stay

Price extends capital stay

Edinburgh Rugby is delighted to announce the contract extension of Scotland and British Irish Lions scrum half, Ali Price, who extends his stay in the capital for at least another year.

Price has made 12 appearances for the capital club he initially joined on loan in November last year, making his debut in the home win over Vodacom Bulls at Hive Stadium to become player #1328.

The extended terms will see the 30-year-old continue to bring his experience and tactical nous to a vital and competitive position at the club, as it pushes for a place in the BKT URC playoffs and next season’s Investec Champions Cup.

He said: “I’m delighted to be staying for at least another season. I’ve absolutely loved my time here so far and I’m really enjoying the environment.

“The boys have really helped me settle after joining earlier this season and honestly it’s been exactly what I’ve needed – a fresh challenge and somewhere where I can continue to develop and grow as a player.”

Ali Price made his international debut for Scotland in their 2016 Autumn Test win against Georgia, defeating them 43-16 at Rugby Park in Kilmarnock before becoming a mainstay in the navy blue of Scotland.

The livewire scrum-half passed 100 appearances for Glasgow Warriors at the start of the 2021/22 Champions Cup campaign and has gone on to win 67 caps for his country, cementing himself as one of the leaders of the current set-up.

In 2021 he earned the distinction of appearing in all three Lions Tests against the world champion Springboks before securing a move to the capital in 2023.

Price became a father for the first time earlier this year as he and partner (Annie) welcomed daughter Luna to the world, with the scrum-half adding the support from the club made the decision to stay at the club even easier.

“Becoming a dad has been absolutely amazing and my partner and daughter Luna are doing really well,” said Price.

“Being a young family and wanting to stay at a club where we feel really comfortable and settled were definitely factors in extending terms, both on a human level but also from a performance point of view.”

“I’m really looking forward to the crucial business end of the season and I’m hoping I can play a big role as we push for a place in the top eight of the league.”

Edinburgh Rugby Head Coach, Sean Everitt, said: “Ali [Price] has been a great addition to the squad since he joined us this season and we’re delighted to secure his services here in Edinburgh for another year at least.

“He’s an exceptional player with a really broad skillset that allows him to play with the game in a number of ways, which makes him a real asset to the team.

“He brings a huge amount of heard-earned experience in the Test arena to a pivotal position and is part of a really competitive scrum-half group that drives standards and competition within our team.”
