Crosbie voted Scottish Building Society Player of the Month
Back-row Luke Crosbie has today been voted Scottish Building Society Player of the Month for October.
The Scotland internationalist has enjoyed a stellar start to the 22/23 season and helped the capital side secure three consecutive wins in a month that saw Edinburgh rise to fifth in the United Rugby Championship.
Crosbie powered over the whitewash in the Round 5 bonus-point win over Benetton Rugby at DAM Health Stadium before skippering his hometown club to an impressive five-point victory against Zebre Parma the following weekend.
Crosbie then grabbed another try in the 17-25 road win against Cardiff Rugby, which saw the back-row lead from the front in an 80-minute all action performance.
The former Livingston RFC and Currie Chieftains man was rewarded for his fine form at club level as Gregor Townsend named the back-row in his Scotland squad for the Autumn Nations Series.
On picking up the award, Crosbie said: “I’m really enjoying my rugby at the moment. It’s great to be able to pick up October’s Player of the Month award, especially as it’s been voted for by the Edinburgh fans – it really means a lot.
“To able to go away to both Zebre and Cardiff – which are tough places to play – and pick up wins was brilliant. To play my part and captain the team in both those games was great and I’m glad that we ended that block with a really hard-fought win on the road.”
As part of the monthly award initiative, Main Club Partner Scottish Building Society has donated £500 to Crosbie’s chosen charity, with the back-row selecting Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.
Edinburgh Rugby and the capital-based charity have a long-standing partnership with the Edinburgh squad set to make their annual visit and present donated gifts at the ‘Sick Kids’ next month.
On his chosen charity, Crosbie, said: “The Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity do some amazing work which I’ve seen first-hand.
“It’s great that Scottish Building Society are able to donate £500 which will help the charity continue that work which makes such a big difference throughout the year.”
Head Coach Mike Blair praised Crosbie’s impact in October and added: “Luke has been hugely influential in October – his leadership and passion on the pitch epitomises what it means to play for Edinburgh Rugby.
“Luke is really deserving of this award for his relentless drive and the way he carries himself as a leader, while his quality play on the park speaks for itself – we were all delighted to see him named in the Scotland squad after a really strong start to the season.”
Scottish Building Society Chief Executive Officer Paul Denton hailed Crosbie’s efforts in October.
He said: “Luke Crosbie has had an incredible season so far, so it’s no surprise that he’s been announced Scottish Building Society’s Player of the Month for October.
“Aside from his incredible work on the pitch, it is great to see him support a great local charity – Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.
“We are proud to support the lifechanging work they do helping medical care, mental health and family wellbeing of people in need. It is great to have their work highlighted in this way.”
