Edinburgh Rugby and Breadalbane launch ‘Tickets to Inspire’ 1872 Cup initiative

Over 20 local charities, covering a wide range of causes including homelessness, social housing, veteran support, food inequality, and youth work, will receive complimentary tickets to the highly anticipated 1872 Cup clash between Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors at Scottish Gas Murrayfield on Saturday 28 December (kick-off 3pm).

This initiative, developed in collaboration with the City of Edinburgh Council and Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations Council (EVOC), aims to inspire and uplift individuals from all backgrounds, providing them with a unique opportunity to experience the thrill of a major rugby event – all with the backing of Breadalbane.

Edinburgh Rugby back-row Ben Muncaster paid a visit to local charity Cyrenians with Breadalbane Director Duncan Wood as part of the launch of the initiative, with Cyrenians benefitting from the ticket donation.

Breadalbane Director Jamie Lindsay expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, and said:

“We are incredibly proud to support the ‘Tickets to Inspire’ initiative alongside Edinburgh Rugby.

“It’s an honour to be able to give back to the community and provide opportunities for so many deserving charities. We hope this experience will create lasting memories and inspire these individuals to embrace the power of rugby.”

Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director Douglas Struth, added: “We are thrilled to partner with Breadalbane on this fantastic initiative. Giving back to the community is a core value of our club.

“By providing tickets to these deserving charities, we hope to create unforgettable moments at this month’s 1872 Cup decider and inspire future generations of Edinburgh Rugby fans.”

John Hawryluk, Service Delivery Lead at Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations Council, added: “Christmas is a time where people across the city can feel isolated and disconnected from wider society.

“This ticket offer for the 1872 Cup will support charity partners to provide their service users a day out at the rugby over the festive period”

Cyrenians Winter Appeal

This year Cyrenians  Winter Appeal is focussing on the acute impact of the Housing Emergency in Edinburgh and in particular, worrying trends in rough sleeping and women’s homelessness. This winter, there is a huge shortage of suitable housing for people in crisis in Edinburgh and even emergency accommodation in hotels and B&Bs is very hard to come by. In a city like ours there should be a place for us all to sleep safely. Cyrenians provides support  – through services like the Fareshare depot – which helps precent homelessness whilst supporting people who are experiencing homelessness. Your kind donation would help Cyrenians provide people with the tools to help them flourish.
