14 selected for France 2023
Fourteen Edinburgh Rugby players will represent Scotland in France this summer as national team Head Coach Gregor Townsend today named his squad for the tournament which kicks-off next month.
Ten of Edinburgh’s pack secure their place in the travelling squad as club co-captain and back-row Jamie Ritchie is named Scotland skipper.
Hookers Ewan Ashman – who signed from Sale Sharks earlier this summer – and Dave Cherry, props Javan Sebastian and Pierre Schoeman, lock Sam Skinner and back-row Luke Crosbie all earn their first trip to a Rugby World Cup.
Club centurions Grant Gilchrist and Hamish Watson are set to feature in their second tournament after featuring at Japan 2019, while prop WP Nel has the opportunity to make it Rugby World Cup number three having worn the thistle in both England (2015) and Japan.
Edinburgh Rugby are well represented in the back-division where the club’s dangerous back-three unit of Darcy Graham, Duhan van der Merwe (both wings) and Blair Kinghorn (full-back) could well start Scotland’s opening game of the tournament.
The club’s newest summer recruit and stand-off, Ben Healy, also books his ticket to France having impressed in the recent Summer Tests.
