Attack and Backs Coach Mathie to depart at end of season

Edinburgh Rugby has today confirmed Attack and Backs Coach Scott Mathie will depart the club at the end of the season to take up a new coaching opportunity elsewhere.
Having previously been Head Coach of South African side Griquas in Currie Cup, Mathie joined Edinburgh Rugby in August 2024 from Major League Rugby (MLR) side New England Free Jacks, where he had guided the team to back-to-back MLR titles in 2023 and 2024 as Head Coach.
This announcement follows the initial phase of changes being made by Head Coach Sean Everitt to the club’s coaching, medical, and strength and conditioning departments as part of a wider reassessment of its coaching and performance functions.
The club remains in discussions with other members of its coaching and performance staff, with a full update to be provided once this process has been completed.
Edinburgh Rugby has now initiated a global search for new assistant coach candidates, across a range of specialisms, to bring fresh knowledge and experience to the capital side in 2026/27.
Edinburgh Rugby Head Coach, Sean Everitt, said: “I’d like to thank Scott for all his contributions over the past two seasons.
“He is a talented coach who has brought a great deal of energy and insight to our attacking play since arriving in Edinburgh.
“Scott still has plenty to contribute over the remainder of the current campaign, and we wish him the very best in his next challenge.”
