McCallum to join Newcastle Falcons
Prop Murray McCallum will join Newcastle Falcons this summer upon the conclusion of his short-term deal in the Scottish capital.
McCallum, 26, has made two appearances since re-joining the club in January – taking his tally to 65 in total – and crossed the whitewash in Saturday’s BKT United Rugby Championship clash against Scarlets.
On his second stint in Edinburgh, McCallum said: “I’ve been grateful for the opportunity to come back and play for my home club, even for the short time it has been.
“There are still some huge games for us to get ripped into before I’m off, so I’m looking forward to helping the team be as competitive as possible and finish the season in a strong position.
“Newcastle is just down the road, so I won’t be far from friends and family and I’m excited for the new challenge that lies ahead.”
Head Coach Mike Blair – who had a spell at Kingston Park from 2013-15 – added:
“We’ve really enjoyed having Murray with us during this short period. He’s clearly a popular player with our players and fans, and he has applied himself well since joining in January.
“The move to Newcastle is a good opportunity for Murray and will offer some certainty and permanency after an up and down period.”
