Scottish Building Society Player of the Month: January nominees

The nominees for January's Scottish Building Society Player of the Month have today been announced, with a quartet of players selected by the coaching staff as the standouts in through the month.

Back-row Luke Crosbie, winger Darcy Graham, centre Matt Currie and lock Sam Skinner all caught the eye throughout January, in a month that saw Edinburgh pick up bonus-point wins against Vannes and Black Lion, before claiming two bonus-points in a gutsy comeback display away against Scarlets.

The winning player will be able to donate £500 – courtesy of Scottish Building Society – to a charity of their choice from our main club partner’s foundation.

Luke Crosbie

The imposing back-row has been at his physical best in recent months and continued his stellar form against Vannes and Black Lion.

Crosbie showed his mettle on both sides of the ball, making a staggering 35 tackles against Vannes, before taking on much of his team’s ball carrying responsibilities in a captain’s display against Black Lion.

Darcy Graham

Scotland star Graham enjoyed an electric January, causing havoc against Vannes and Black Lion. While the winger didn’t score a try of his own, he was central to much of Edinburgh’s attacking flair, making seven line-breaks across the two matches, and turned provider to set up Ali Price for a walk-in try at Stade de la Rabine.

Matt Currie

Outside centre Currie continues to be one of the capital’s most consistent performers, and January was no different for the young centre. Combining well with centre-partner James Lang, Currie helped guide the capital to three try bonus points across the month.

Currie also showed his versatility against Scarlets, playing on the wing for 40 minutes, providing dynamism in attack with four tackle breaks and an impressive try assist for Ben Healy.

The young centre also hit the impressive milestone of 50 appearances for Edinburgh whilst away against Vannes, and enjoyed playing alongside his brother Tom who made his debut for the club away against Scarlets.

Sam Skinner

Lock Skinner crossed the whitewash twice in January, capping an impressive month in the capital boiler room. Skinner finished well to spark his side’s home win against Black Lion, before scoring away at Scarlets on the way to a gutsy bonus-point.

Skinner captained for the first time, leading a young capital pack to three maul tries at Parc y Scarlets.
