Hector Patterson, Magnus Bradbury, Liam McConnell and Glen Young are the four players in the running for October’s award.
The award recognises the standout Edinburgh Rugby performer each month, and the winner also gets to make a difference off the pitch.
Scottish Building Society will donate £500 to a grassroots club of the winner’s choice, aligned with Edinburgh Rugby. That money could go towards new kit, training equipment or a community programme.
Local clubs play a pivotal role in developing the next generation of players, so make sure you get your vote in and keep an eye out for where this month’s £500 donation lands!
Hector Patterson
What a start to the season it’s been for Hector. The 21-year-old scrum-half only made his professional debut in April. He has started every game of the new campaign, and he’s quickly become one of the most exciting young players in the URC.
He was on the scoresheet in the opening-night win in Belfast, finishing off a move involving Magnus Bradbury and Malelili Satala.
Then came his standout performance at Hive Stadium against the 10bet Lions. He scored twice, including a quick-tap penalty finish from 30 metres out, and set up Mosese Tuipulotu’s try with a one-handed offload. He was named BKT Player of the Match as Edinburgh secured a five-try bonus-point win.
It capped a big week for the Jed-Forest and Hawick product, who signed a new two-year contract keeping him in the capital until the end of the 2027/28 season.
Magnus Bradbury
Magnus was named co-captain alongside Matt Currie at the start of the season, and he has led from the front ever since.
He was involved from the opening round, combining with Satala to send Patterson over in Belfast. He was unlucky not to take the Player of the Match award in the home win over the DHL Stormers.
He made no mistake a week later away at Zebre Parma. He powered over for a try in the second half and earned the Player of the Match award as Edinburgh claimed a four-try bonus-point win in Parma to go top of the URC.
Big carries, big hits and the leadership of a club centurion have set the tone for Edinburgh’s strong start.
Liam McConnell
Liam has started the season on fire. After five rounds, he leads the league for both line-out steals (seven) and carries (71).
His line-out disruption was on full show against the DHL Stormers. He claimed three of their throws in a 15-minute spell before half-time, while also making 11 carries and 11 tackles.
Liam has had a hand in tries too. In Belfast he gathered a loose kick and drew in the defence before offloading to Satala for Edinburgh’s second try. In Treviso his good work set up Harry Paterson’s late score.
His form has been rewarded at international level as well. Liam is named in Scotland’s squad for the Nations Championship fixtures against New Zealand, Australia and Japan at Scottish Gas Murrayfield this November.
Glen Young
Glen has been ever-present this season, featuring in every game so far, and he’s been relentless in each one.
After five rounds, he’s second in the league for line-out steals with six, just behind teammate Liam McConnell. He also has the eighth most carries with 52, and he leads the league with nine successful offloads.
Glen was at the heart of the line-out battle against the Stormers, stealing their first throw in the spell that turned the game. He then pounced on a loose ball late on to help seal a 17-13 win at Hive Stadium.
