Lang voted Scottish Building Society Player of the Month

Centre James Lang is today voted March’s Scottish Building Society Player of the Month after an impressive showing in the capital midfield. 

Lang consistently showed his mettle in a string of standout displays against Leinster, Connacht and Leicester Tigers. The centre has been typically abrasive in defence and evasive in attack, whilst pulling the strings with his kicking game in a central playmaking role.

The Scotland international regularly made it over the gain line with ball in hand, averaging an impressive 65 metres carried per match. Lang also took responsibility for kicking from hand, regularly picking out the corner from penalty kicks to touch.

On picking up the award, Lang said: “I want to thank everyone who voted for the award, it means a lot to get Player of the Month for March.

“It’s not been a great few months for the club, but I’m hoping we can finish the season strong and put a good performance out there for the fans.”

Scottish Building Society has kindly donated £500 to Lang’s charity of choice, Cancer Research.

On the donation, Lang added: “A big thanks to Scottish Building Society for the donation to Cancer Research. My mum did a charity swim for the whole of last month for Cancer Research, so it’s something close to me and my family.

“My uncle David is going through chemotherapy at the minute, so it means a lot for the donation to go to him.”

Head Coach Mike Blair praised Lang’s midfield displays, adding: “James has been a consistent performer throughout the season, and has added an extra level since the turn of the year.

“He’s a become a key member of the side. He offers a lot on both sides of the ball, and shows huge commitment to the jersey whenever he puts it on.”

Paul Denton, chief executive, Scottish Building Society said: “James Lang has had a very strong concluding month to the season and I am sure he is looking to build on that going into next year.

“His selection of Cancer Research is a very fitting charity for our final POTM donation of the year.

“We have donated £4,000 over the course of the season to local charitable causes picked by each winning player. A huge range of charities have benefited from this initiative which we are proud to support.

“We hope James can continue this great form as we look forward to the 2023/24 season.”
