Following a massive month of action across the BKT United Rugby Championship and Investec Champions Cup – featuring clashes against Ospreys, RC Toulon, Castres Olympique, and the 1872 Cup double-header  – the shortlist has been narrowed down to four standout performers.

Liam McConnell, Harri Morris, Glen Young and Magnus Bradbury are all in the running for the December trophy after a month that saw the capital club secure vital European and URC wins over Ospreys and RC Toulon.

As part of the initiative, the winning player will be presented with the award and a £500 donation from Scottish Building Society to a local rugby club or cause of their choosing.

THE NOMINEES

Liam McConnell

The young back-rower enjoyed a true breakout month in the capital. McConnell has quickly established himself as one of the club’s standout performers this season, a status he cemented by being named Investec Player of the Match on his European debut against RC Toulon.

The academy graduate further impressed in his first-ever 1872 Cup matches, producing a series of massive defensive moments—none more crucial than a try-line turnover penalty against Glasgow Warriors.

To cap off a stellar December, McConnell also committed his future to the club by signing a new long-term deal.

Harri Morris

Hooker Harri Morris was a vital presence throughout December, starting with his match-winning heroics against Ospreys where he crossed for the decisive try.

Morris earned a starting spot for the home leg of the 1872 Cup at Scottish Gas Murrayfield and proved to be a defensive standout.

Strong in the tackle and consistently disruptive at the breakdown, Morris’ work rate in the tight exchanges has been a key component of the Edinburgh pack’s recent success.

Glen Young

Lock Glen Young was the embodiment of the ‘workhorse’ mentality throughout the festive period.

After coming off the bench to add significant physical force in the victory over RC Toulon, Young started both 1872 Cup fixtures against Glasgow Warriors.

His statistics across the festive derbies were staggering, with his tackle count and work rate in the loose described as “through the roof.”

Alongside his defensive shift, Young provided a reliable presence at set-piece and lineout, proving to be an essential partner in the capital engine room.

Magnus Bradbury

The club captain led from the front throughout December, putting in a series of tireless shifts at number 8.

Bradbury was a carrying machine in the Champions Cup win over RC Toulon, repeatedly providing the ‘go-forward’ required to get the team on the front foot.

In the away leg of the 1872 Cup at Scotstoun, Bradbury was a defensive mammoth, recording over 20 tackles in a physical encounter.

His leadership and ability to eat up metres in heavy traffic have been vital to Edinburgh’s momentum heading into the New Year.
