December’s Player of the Month nominees announced
8 Jan 2024The four nominees for December’s Scottish Building Society Player of the Month have been announced!
Duhan van der Merwe, Pierre Schoeman, Ali Price and Wes Goosen are all nominated for this month’s award after impressing in fixtures against Ulster, Clermont, Castres Olympique and Glasgow Warriors.
The winner of the award will have £500 donated to their cause or charity of choice, courtesy of Main Club Partner Scottish Building Society.

Duhan van der Merwe
The Scotland and British & Irish Lion star picked up two Player of the Match awards in December – shining bright with a brace of showstopping performances in home wins over Castres Olympique and Glasgow Warriors.
Van der Merwe scored a magnificent solo effort to secure all five points against Castres before his last gasp 90m try against Warriors proved a match-winner in front of a club record crowd at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.
Chosen charity: Edinburgh Community Food
Pierre Schoeman
Schoeman was a scrummaging machine in the away victory over Ulster, claiming a myriad of set-piece penalties to help secure the road win.
The loosehead prop crossed the whitewash at Kingspan Stadium while his carrying stats were once again off the charts in both festive derbies against Glasgow Warriors.
Schoeman made 45 carries, 3 clean breaks, 21 dominant contacts, crossed the gain line 25 times and beat 6 defenders throughout a dominant end to the year.
Chosen charity: Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity
Ali Price
Price grabbed his first try for the club in the home victory over Castres Olympique, sidestepping a number of would-be defenders en-route to a solo score in front of the Murrayfield Stand.
Price’s tactical kicking was on point against Glasgow Warriors while his 40m scramble from a quick thinking tap-and-go had the Scottish Gas Murrayfield crowd on its feet.

Wes Goosen
There perhaps isn’t a player that has impressed as much in 2023/24 than Wes Goosen.
Goosen’s chase back and try-saving tackle against Ulster epitomised his never-say-die attitude while the winger crossed the whitewash in both European fixtures against Clermont and Castres Olympique.
Goosen played full-back in both festive derbies against Glasgow Warriors where he showcased his versatility with back-to-back impressive performances in the number 15 jersey.
